Hello everyone, I’m Marciah Vales, and I want to share with you my story – a journey filled with dreams, challenges, and transformations. From the humble beginnings in rural Brazil to the glitz and glamour of the entertainment industry, every step has shaped who I am today.
Childhood in Itambaracá: Embracing Nature and Responsibility
I grew up in a world far removed from the one I inhabit today. The vivid memories of my childhood in rural Brazil are etched in my mind. I fondly remember my horse, Raio, and my two pigs, Pintada and Neguinho, each with their unique markings and personalities. They were my earliest friends in a life that was simple yet filled with the richness of nature. My days were marked by the rustic beauty of Itambaracá, where sugar cane fields stretched as far as the eye could see. Those early years, immersed in nature’s embrace, instilled in me a deep appreciation for the environment and a connection to the land that I carry with me to this day.
But my childhood was not just about idyllic rural life. From the age of eight, I shouldered responsibilities that were beyond my years. I took care of my ill grandfather’s bar after school, helping him keep it open as he couldn’t due to his frail health. This experience taught me the value of hard work and responsibility from a very young age, even though it exposed me to challenging situations with the patrons.
Entrepreneurial Spirit: My Early Ventures
At 14, my entrepreneurial spirit led me to sell cleaning products, used and new clothing, and any other goods available for selling around our small village. Not old enough to drive, I still found ways to move the car discreetly. These early ventures taught me more than just the basics of business. They instilled in me a work ethic that has been unwavering throughout my career. Every discreet car ride was a lesson in risk-taking and innovation.
Navigating Family Dynamics: Lessons in Resilience
My journey through family relationships was both challenging and transformative. As a child, I balanced my love for the outdoors, which connected me with my father, and a tough relationship with my mother. These experiences were more than childhood challenges; they shaped my character. The tough love from my mother taught me resilience and the importance of facing adversity with courage.
This part of my life also taught me empathy and understanding. By forgiving my mother and trying to see her perspective, I developed strong emotional intelligence. I learned that our actions are influenced by our experiences, a lesson vital for my work as an actor and filmmaker. This understanding helps me connect with various characters and stories, enhancing my career.
Education: A Gateway to New Horizons
As a teenager, I found solace and escape in education. My curiosity led me to CEFET-PR, a school 50 kilometers from home that offered a new world of possibilities. Despite my disinterest in the courses offered, the lure of studying in a bigger town, away from the confines of my small world, was irresistible. My choice to study electronics was a pragmatic one, steered as much by my aversion to dirty nails as by my eagerness to learn something new. This period was a significant stepping stone, marking the beginning of my journey towards independence and self-discovery.
Embracing Motherhood: A Pivotal Chapter
At 19, my life took an unexpected yet transformative turn with the birth of my son, Enrico. Becoming a mother at such a young age ignited dreams of a different life and marked a profound shift in my journey. This experience, coupled with my involvement in politics and my decision to enroll in law school, heralded a period of significant transformation. Enrico, the new center of my universe, inspired me to dream bigger and aim higher, not just for myself, but for my family. It was during this pivotal time that I envisioned a life where I could provide the support my son and family deserved, while fully embracing and experiencing the richness of life.
The European Dream: A New Beginning
With a heart full of dreams and the responsibility of raising a young child, I made the courageous decision to move from Brazil to Europe. This pivotal step was fueled by two compelling desires: the need to express myself freely and the determination to provide a better future for my son. Back in Brazil, I had enrolled in law school, driven by ambitions of becoming a judge and a deep-seated passion for justice and societal change. Yet, upon arriving in Madrid, it became apparent that my true calling was in a different direction. The structured, regimented world of law did not align with my free spirit, which longed for a medium to express my creativity and to channel my personal experiences into art. This realization marked a significant turning point in my life, not just professionally but also in terms of adapting to and embracing different cultures.
Discovering My Artistic Voice in Madrid
My quest for self-expression led me to Spain, an unfamiliar yet captivating land. In Madrid, I experienced a profound cultural shock – transitioning from a rural Brazilian town to the vibrant, chaotic streets of this European capital. Despite facing immense challenges, including language barriers and financial struggles, Madrid is where I discovered my true passion: acting and filmmaking. In the city’s eclectic and artistic milieu, I felt a deep sense of belonging. Inspired by its energy and diversity, I embarked on an educational journey, attending various acting schools to hone my newfound craft. This period in Madrid was instrumental in shaping my career in acting and filmmaking.
Beyond Acting: Diverse Roles in the Entertainment World
My path in the entertainment industry has been a journey of diverse and enriching experiences. From roles in public relations to performances in Samba, each job, though not always directly related to acting, contributed significantly to my understanding of the world and my own industry. These experiences were not merely jobs; they were vital chapters of my life story, providing lessons in the nuances of entertainment, audience engagement, and cultural expression. My unique experiences, ranging from my early years in rural Brazil and the challenges of young motherhood to adapting to life in Europe, offered me a distinctive perspective. This varied background allowed me to bring a unique authenticity and depth to my roles, helping me stand out in the competitive field of acting and filmmaking.
Embracing Global Citizenship: My Multicultural Odyssey
My journey didn’t just keep me in one place. From Brazil to Madrid, then London, Florida, and back to Spain, I’ve embraced the life of a global citizen. This nomadic lifestyle came with its unique challenges, like going through the process of obtaining three different driver’s licenses in Brazil, the USA, and Spain. With dual nationalities and permanent resident status in multiple countries, I’ve learned to call Brazil, Europe, the UK, and the USA my homes.
